Homemade Burger filled with Feta Cheese and Tomato Salsa topping

Hi dear readers,

Last weekend I decided it’s time again for some serious meat action! I wanted to give this meaty dish a fresh and contemporary finish so I thought about combing the meat with some refreshing homemade salsa. I took my frying pan and got my hands into some mince meat. And by the way, I also found out two things:

  1. a delicious burger is the ultimate hangover cure
  2. a great way to make a man very happy (and girls of course too!)

All you need (serves 4):

Burger:

  • 500g good quality mince beef/lean steak
  • 1 small red onion, very finely chopped (half of it goes with the meat, the rest with the salsa)
  • 1 handful of feta cheese cut in small cubes
  • Salt, pepper, paprika, dried chilli flakes, dried mixed herbs

For the Salsa:

  • 1 package of vine cocktail tomatoes
  • Half a cucumber, very finely chopped
  • Handful fresh coriander, chopped
  • 1-2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • Salt, pepper

Otherwise:

  • Four burger buns, whatever you like is fine
  • Optional: ketch-up, mayonnaise, mustard

First, cut the onion really fine. Put the mince in a bowl, add half of the onion and season very well with salt, pepper, paprika, dried chilli and mixed herbs. Divide the seasoned meat into 4 even portions and form nice patties out of it. The tricky bit is to stuff the feta in the middle. It’s the best to form a little whole and then stuff the cheese in. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it’s all about the taste.

Half the tomatoes and put them in a bowl. Add the rest of the onion, cucumber bits and some vinegar. Now season with salt, pepper, and add the coriander. Stir well. If you’re happy with the taste, then your salsa is done.

Now heat a little oil in a frying pan and fry the patties from each side for two minutes to give them colour. Lower the heat and fry for 10 minutes, turn regularly. Make sure they are cooked well before serving.

Cut your buns in halves and give some ketch-up on the lower side. I always use Levi Roots’ reggae reggae one because it is the best and contains some additional flavours. Place the patty in the middle and top with some salsa. Gorgeous!

The only thing left to say is: Enjoy the meat feast!
